When I said yesterday, the birth of this handsome boy was nothing short of a miracle, I truly meant it in every sense of the word. Without going to much into depth, the last decade has been far from easy for melissa and todd. Through various illnesses, TONS AND TONS of surgeries for both of them, and even cancer, the two of them have overcome every obstacle. Most recently, todd’s journey to beat chronic myeloid leukemia, left them questioning whether their dream of a family could ever happen. Through various assisted failed attempts at pregnancies, it led them down the road to start the adoption process. And wouldn’t you know, as it happens often, SURPRISE, they got pregnant all by themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that statement deserves that many exclamations and if you’re like me, you also got goosebumps. I’ve known todd’s family my whole life and melissa since high school. When she called and asked me to be there for what would inevitably be a very emotional delivery, I was so ecstatic. Heck yes, I would love to!
Fast forward to Monday, just a couple hours after I got home from good sam from my sister’s delivery, melissa called to say they were doing an over night induction THAT night! So all day Tuesday I was eager beaver cranking out as much work as possible assuming I’d be going up to shoot the birth soon. At 615 I left my house, to arrive to the most anticipated on edge room ever. Melissa is the only child so you can imagine the excitement her parents had for their very first grandbaby! Before we knew it, it was 9:30pm and time to push. With most first babies that process takes 45min-3hrs, so often it’s started without the dr present. Because melissa is awesome, with her first push, todd saw hair!! What?! Since the dr had not even left her house yet, for the next 20 min melissa LITERALLY held her legs closed for fear that baby would push itself out. breathing through the pressure of contractions, but to hold the baby in! meanwhile, todd’s sister who wasn’t supposed to see them til the weekend, surprised them! She made it just in time, and they were thrilled to see her! So cool.
Once the dr arrived, melissa made her delivery a breeze with only a few pushes. At 10:15 out came their beautiful baby boy. They had kept the name secret from everyone, so as soon as he was placed on her chest she said, “hello baby! This is tobias william lahey!” 🙂 7.12lbs, 21in long. HEALTHY AS EVER! God is good, my friends. God is good.
Thank you so much for allowing me to witness this beyond blessed moment. From now on, you’re lives are going to be so amazing, I can’t even begin to tell you! CONGRATS!! I’m SO happy for you!
