BB on the news!

Awhile back we got some emails from some news stations to do a segment on birth photography because they’ve heard it’s the “new thing.” As you can imagine we were very timid to have our faces broadcasted in the living rooms of thousands. I’m one of those people that may come across as confident, but truth be told, I had to pop an Imodium just while I was emailing with the news correspondent. We were also very nervous because everyone else out there who doesn’t visit this blog often, is completely horrified by the term “birth photography.” I think I asked the reporter no less than 28 times in various ways, “you are SURE this is going to be a positive piece, right??” I just did NOT want to have another story like the New York Times controversy. We want people to understand why we do what we do and are so passionate about it. So we agreed. And I drank a bottle of Pepto.

After about 4-5 hours of footage, they edited it all down to about 3 minutes. Ha! We are grateful that the timing worked out to get Kelly actually at a birth. Thanks to Laura and Dale for allowing the news in your delivery room! That whole part cracks me up because we promise our parents that we are as unobtrusive as possible and then we go and bring all of the tri-state into the most intimate moments of your lives! D’oh! Thanks for being good sports! Also, big thanks to Jen & Aleisa for allowing the news to come interview you guys & for always supporting us 🙂

So for the out of towners or even locals who didn’t get to see BB on the news, here is the clip! And also the article if you wanted to read it as well.

I’m kind of disappointed in myself though. I really wanted to use the word vagina in my interview just to see if they’d air it. I totally forgot. Boo.

Love, Melanie and Kelly.

Ps. Thanks Channel 9 for finding us and having interest in what we do!

That was very well done! Your fear of them making it something terrible is totally justified but it turned out great! Yay!
