Welcome Otto Nicholas. {Just Born}

Sweet Pea is here and he’s a HE! ๐Ÿ™‚ Otto was resting comfortably and just needed to be threatened with an induction date to get him evacuated! Thankfully it didn’t come to that and him in all his chunky glory arrived in his birthday suit just in time for the Halloween parties to start! Kate did great and succeeded in her desired natural birth of her first born! Well done in the gene pool too, he’s beautiful! Congrats to your families and enjoy your time as the first grandchild, Otto, there’s another baby coming to steal your thunder soon!

Kate and Nick,

So Sweet Pea turned out to be a boy! Congratulations and I love the pics! Wishing you lots of happy and healthy times with this sweet little boy!

Welcome Charlotte Anne. {Just Born}

This sweet little girl took her time baking past her EDD, unlike her big bros early arrivals. This may just be the perfect indicator of who the new boss is in the house! Anne and I kept in touch from the start of this pregnancy and she was so excited to have me there for her natural birth. As days went on, of course the baby waited till the middle of the night before I had a long wedding day to act up and spike Mama’s BP. Anne was forced to labor with the Pit and she did wonderfully. I went to sleep at 1030p and she was only 3cm. I was up and down all night with my own babies and finally texted her at 4am wondering what the heck was going on since she has a track record for fast deliveries. To my surprise, Lottie was already here! WHAT?! At close to 2am her water broke at 5cm and immediately her body transitioned and she started to push. With the quickness, the baby was here! They didn’t even have time to call me, not that I would have even gotten dressed, made the 35 min drive and arrived before baby!! Geesh. So I came up first thing Sunday, which was absolutely perfect because then I got to be there with big brothers, Deacon and Cohen. It was so cool to see Anne dress her in the same outfit she came home from the hospital in 31yrs ago! Even more awesome, there was a volunteer distributing to the Catholic families, so we shared Communion together too! Though we were both disappointed I wasn’t able to make her birth, I’m glad it still worked out even better in the end. This lady is so loved, I mean, she already has like 12 nicknames! Charlie, Lottie, Char, CharChar, Calvin…

A Beautiful Beginning: Isabelle Louise.

If I had a nickel for every time things magically worked out, I’d be rich. Kelly was a week away from her due date and been contracting since the middle of the night. I was hoping that she went early thst morning because I had a twin newborn/family session in the evening that I couldn’t reschedule. As the day progressed, Kelly labored slowly. It got close to my session time and she decided it was best to stall herself out so I could make it. ๐Ÿ™‚ So instead of using gravity and walking and doing all the things we know to do, she moved little or not at all. HA! Things intensified at the hospital just as I was finishing my session and she was 7-8cm. Intuition told me to switch memory cards, prep my settings and switch lenses at my clients house just so I could be ready as soon as I walked into L&D. I drove too quickly and as I was a few hundred yards away on Montgomery Rd from bNorth hospital, Kelly’s SIL texted me at 6:59pm … “she’s pushing!!” GAHHH. I tried to floor it around all the grandma drivers stopping 18 seconds at all those dang stop signs in their parking lot, but it didn’t work. I had to, of course, park a million spots away from the door and sprint as fast as I could to the entrance. That is, with a big camera flopping on each hip, a backpack with other lenses and my laptop (like I woulda had downtime to work!), my purse, all while in rain boots! The worst! Through the long as heck halls of Bethesda, up the elevator, to her room. ALL of that by 7:04 pm. FIVE minutes. Do you know I was breathing harder and louder than the woman PUSHING OUT A BABY WITHOUT MEDS?! Yep. Thankful Kel brought her camera and Jenny was able to get the first 5 images of her laboring for me because I had exactly 4 minutes to shoot before Donny delivered their first baby girl into Mama’s arms! It was perfect. Overwhelming. Beautiful. All of it. Complete reassurance of why we run ourselves ragged for this business. Those first moments, you can’t compare it to anything in the world. Now Kelly has these images to see her strength and see the joy and pride on everyone’s faces surrounding her! Sweet little Izzy was 6.15lbs, 18in, bigger than we expected with Kelly being so small her whole pregnancy. She was healthy and here for all of us to enjoy! Hooray! I’m so proud of you Kelly, for yet again, laboring and delivering so gracefully. I mean, I know you were in intense pain, but you’d never know. Well done! And not to my surprise, the next morning when I went to leave for my next birth, there was a white feather woven into my equipment backpack. A little confirmation to me from up above of why things worked out so perfectly the evening before. <3

So much love, Melanie.

Welcome Haley Marie! {Just Born}

Rachel and Erik anxiously awaited the arrival of their second baby. Rachel’s surgery was first thing Friday morning and the whole family was on the edge of their seats to find out who they were welcoming into the family. I’m not even sure why they hired me because there was like zero cheer in the room when Daddy picked up the PINK girl bag to announce the gender. I was thinking, I mean, at least someone smile or something?! For reals, everyone was crying, myself and the others in the waiting room as well. It was perfect, as you can see below. Rachel was still in shock herself since she was 110% certain it was another boy. I hope Kaleb is excited for a sister!! Congrats to you all! She’s so squishy, sweet and rocking an amazing head of hair!
